More from my students and training clients:
“I want to take this moment to tell you about my experience with Katie Hill. I have learned that if you ride long enough in life, a horse may find you…one that challenges you to the point where you start to question why you ride, keep or love horses. Fortunately, I found Katie Hill, and she had all the answers to those questions.
Katie is a wonderful trainer, an experienced professional who has just the right mix of empathy, sensitivity, knowledge and strength. After six years and multiple trainers, I feel that I am finally going forward with a happy horse — a horse who is balanced in mind and body, a horse who can go out and reach his incredible potential and fulfill his destiny. Thank you, Katie! Your support has brought a smile back to my face and laughter back into my heart.”

“I have been riding for many years and Katie is by far the most delightful trainer I have had the opportunity to work with. Katie is extremely sensitive to my horse’s personality; so in tune with him that I am quite sure she makes him smile. Katie is precise and correct with the aids for proper training, is not forceful in her manner and is able to gently ease a good horse into happily going well. Katie takes all the time needed for each step in the training process. This patience enables both horse and rider to really develop the skills and strength for truly free movement. Each session with Katie is exciting because each one ends with progress made.”

“Katie began by finding me the perfect partner: a horse of the right size, temperament, knowledge and capability, who was both sound and willing…
She has taught me more and brought me further than I have progressed in 40 years of experience with other trainers. She has patiently transformed me from a cowering, weak-limbed mental marshmallow who was afraid to jump two feet, to a confident, inspired rider.
The most important thing to me is that she has given my relationship with my horse a depth and quality that I could never have imagined. I have a true, harmonious partnership, all because of her teaching. Katie’s expansive resources are impressive. She brings intellectual, emotional and spiritual components to riding. She is never at a loss for ideas…she is rigorous but always tactful…she brings an uncanny intuition to the riding ring.
Katie has none of the attributes I have seen in trainers riding at the highest levels — she is never burnt out, uninspired, dismissive, disparaging or insulting. Instead, she is positive, helpful and supportive. She always listens to me, gives encouragement, and incorporates my ideas into lessons, so that I am able to ride independently, and feel confident in my own instincts in the saddle. She is a clear communicator and has improved the clarity of communication with my horses tremendously.
My only wish is that Katie had been around to teach me when I was first learning to ride. Anyone having the chance to work with her should grab it, and quickly.”

“Though I have only been riding with Katie for a short while, she has dramatically improved the performance of both me and my horse. I thought I had reached a plateau in my riding and in Sunny’s training. That is when I started taking lessons with Katie and she has really advanced my riding to the next level. Even on my first lesson there was a huge difference in Sunny’s behavior. It is absolutely unbelievable how far he has come in so little time.
Katie has been incredible working with Sunny and me. She really understands the two of us as a team and knows how best to keep a smart, sensitive horse like Sunny focused, interested, and willing to learn. She has an endless supply of tricks up her sleeve and she always has a solution for whatever problems may arise in my riding.
Every one of Katie’s lessons makes me feel I have accomplished something, and I always leave the ring with a new goal to work towards.”

“I met Katie at a clinic during a time when I’d hit a roadblock training my horse. I had hit the end of my knowledge base and had no idea how to progress with his training. After a few days discussing theory and training practices, I was very impressed by Katie’s knowledge and was hoping to work with her in the future. The problem was she lives a few states away.
‘No problem,’ she said, ‘I can do lessons by video [internet lessons]. I took her up on her offer and with her help, I’ve been able to move forward in my training. I’m continuously impressed by how much she sees even on amateur quality video, not to mention that she takes the time to write out a thoughtful analysis of my rides that include tips on how to improve and what exercises to introduce to my horse next.”
“If you are looking for a knowledgeable, effective and kind trainer, then Katie Hill is the trainer for you and your horse. Katie has a very direct but soft way of teaching, which every mother appreciates. She understands horses, humans and their endless needs. Katie can easily convey the proper aids to my daughter so she can transform her green pony into a supple, attentive and sweet little guy. She is truly a dream instructor.”
Jennifer Buis, Windsor, CT…and from her 12 year old daughter, Annemieke:
“Katie Hill has been a phenomenal instructor for me. We are currently working on training my pony who can be difficult at times. Sir William and I have come very far thanks to Katie. She has taught me about contact and how to make my leg more effective. Now I am able to get horses to stretch over their toplines instead of hollowing out. It blows my mind that so many of these subtle changes can improve my riding and my horse so much. Katie Hill is a dream trainer.”
“I have been riding all my life, but when it was time to buy a new horse, I called Katie. I would recommend that anyone looking to buy a horse — for him/herself or for another family member — hire Katie (or a Katie-clone!). It will help save you the anguish and expense of acquiring an unsound or unsuitable horse, and I speak from bitter experience on that one…
I gave Katie a real challenge, as I was looking for something very specific and had written out a page of mandatory and desirable criteria. She did a rigorous amount of horse searching throughout the Northeast, weeding out for soundness, suitability and p rice points. She then followed up with the “short list,” interviewing the owners/trainers and asking the hard questions that would ferret out the horses I shouldn’t be considering.
Katie planned two rigorous days of horse-hunting in New York and New England. Everything was well-scheduled in advance of our arrival at the various barns so that no time/effort was wasted. I saw/rode about a half-dozen horses in those two trips, and of those horses, two were really strong prospects.
Prior to hiring Katie, I had heard about a local horse who was not quite for sale yet but could be coming onto the market in a few months. The timing was right, and I was the first to try him. Katie came with me and helped me make the good decision to purchase him. While negotiations proceeded, Katie expended every effort to ensure that I would be able to buy one of the other horses in the event that negotiations went south or something unacceptable turned up during the vetting.
Katie was always there for me at any hour of the day or night, ready to answer any questions I had, and to share all of her experience and wisdom. I have to tell you that I would have made a big mistake in not hiring her to partner with me on finding a new horse after my lovely mare had to be put down. Even if you’re a seasoned horsewoman, as I am, there’s nothing like having a really expert set of eyes and ears, and an impassioned observer looking out for your best interests as you find your new horse.”
